Jollibee Adobo Flakes Burger & Halo-Halo Sundae – Reminds Us that Jollibee is Our Own

2 Jollibee Halo Halo Sundaes and 2 Adobo Burgers

June 12 is coming up and another year marks our freedom from Spaniards.

Do you know that?

I wouldn’t be surprised if you didn’t. Our “Araw ng Kalayaan”, let’s admit, isn’t as celebrated as it used to be. I can’t remember the last time I did “something special” as a Filipino during Independence Day. For the past many, many years I see it as just another holiday that either saves me from one day of work or entitles me to double pay.

This year it falls on a Sunday. So too bad, right?

Jollibee’s Adobo Burger and Halo-Halo Sundae

Jollibee, on the other hand, had other plans for this year. They’re reminding us that Independence Day is a special day through a very Pinoy-inspired food combo: Adobo Flakes Burger and Halo-halo Sundae.

Adobo Burger

The new Adobo Burger is basically Regular Yum Burger sans the sauce. Instead of the sweet, tangy, relish-speckled light-orange-colored sauce, delicious adobo flakes sits on top of the patty. But before you sink your teeth into the burger, spread the adobo flakes around first. Mine was dumped on top of the patty.

Wondering how it takes like? Imagine Regular Yum and an adobo bun met, had a whirlwind romance, and produced a baby. That’s how it tastes like.

Jollibee’s New Adobo Burger is surprisingly good. The adobo flakes has a home-cooked quality that takes out the “fastfood-y” taste of the burger.

Halo-halo Sundae

This one looks like a “piyesta” in a cup. Wonderfully start against Jollibee’s vanilla sundae, the multicolored “sangkap” reminds me of “banderitas” that line our streets during festivals. Red and green nata de coco, macapuno strips, softened red beans and sweetened langka and banana rests invitingly on top, filling the cup to the brim.

I wish there was leche flan and halayang ube. It would have made the new Jollibee Halo-Halo Sundae even better.

Marked as “Limited Edition”, Adobo Flakes Burger and Halo-Halo Sundae deserve permanent spots on Jollibee’s menu. Adobo and Halo-Halo are true Pinoy flavors, and having them there would serve as a constant reminder: the big fat smiling bee is Filipino, unlike the clown and the colonel that hail from Uncle Sam’s.
