Lately, my immune system has been taking one hit after the other: cold, fever, dry cough, pesky mouth sores, and even an unusual case of zits on my chin. To cope with it, I’ve been amping up my Vitamin C intake by taking a supplement and drinking Vitamin-C enriched fruit juices.

And boy, I am enjoying every sip of it.

I’ve always been a fan of Del Monte fruit juices so I’ve been putting the different flavors I love on rotation — four seasons, mango, pineapple, and orange. It was fun at first (and it still is), but after having it more than I ever did before I started looking for variety.

Del Monte Pineapple Pomelo & Pineapple Lychee – Limited Edition Flavors

When I saw the two new “limited-edition” flavors, Pineapple Lychee and Pineapple Pomelo, on their Facebook page, I kept my eye out for those. Del Monte announced the new flavors some time in April but I didn’t find them on supermarket shelves until this month, June.

Of course, I grabbed both, a little excited to try out the new flavors. I love pomelo. I love lychee. Mixed with pineapple, those flavors sound great.

The Verdict

Sadly, in this case, the “greatness” ends there. The quality of Del Monte’s Pineapple Lychee and Pineapple Pomelo is worlds apart from the flavors I’m used to. It’s too sweet and too thin. Like candy in a bad way. To be brutally honest, it tasted no better than run-of-the-mill powdered fruit juices. If it came from P10-sachets, I would have understood. But it didn’t and it’s depressing.

After scrutinizing the carton packaging, I also noticed that the 100% of Vitamin C stamp is missing. Boooo! The extra boost of Vitamin C is what I’m mainly after.

At P65 per 1L carton bottle I felt robbed. It’s been a week now and the bottles are still in the fridge, more than half-full.

I’m glad they said these are “limited edition” flavors only. Unless Del Monte gives these two a serious upgrade, they should stay that way.

This doesn’t change my attitude towards Del Monte’s fruit juices though. I’m still a fan it but I’ll stick to the flavors I love.
